I am feeling rather down these days. There are thousands and millions of authors... how am i gonna be a very popular and everyone-knows-you kinda author, like J.K Rowling, Charles Dickens or CS Lewis?HUGE TIP FOR BEING A PRETTY GOOD AUTHOR(from www.cathycassidy.com. do visit!
* Read lots... you'll learn about plot, style, narrative and dialogue as you go!* Try writing 'in the style of' a fave author. 'Trying on' different styles can help you find your own voice.* Write as often as you can - nothing beats practice! Stories, poetry, journals, reports, it all counts!* Write about what you like/care about - it'll show in your work!* Keep a notebook handy to play with ideas or write down daydreams/inspirations.* Don't expect overnight success - it can take a long time to come! Don't compare yourself to others, either, you may end up feeling discouraged. Enjoy writing for its own sake and see every story/poem as a step on the way to being a better writer.* Be a people-watcher and a daydreamer - that's where I get all my best ideas!* Believe in yourself - and go for it!
